Biology of Human Mind & Brain:

Biology of Brain:

The study of human behavior to psychology, physical science and social science makes the people puzzled in understanding the human mind and the brain. Some sort of light is possible to acquire by the study of brain anatomy, neurophysiology, hormones and genetics. Bertrand Russell, the brilliant mathematician, scientist, and philosopher said “The important point is that the difference between mind and brain is not a difference in quality, but a difference in arrangement. What he pointed out here is the fact that there is no distinction between mind and brain. But scientific explanation requires physical characteristics to proof the functions of brain. That is, thinking, perceiving, remembering, desiring or feelings are all the characters of our brain functions. It is claim that they are parts of the mind and these are nothing but one of linguistic convenience. The evidence in support of this argument is complex and unexplained till now.

Cognitive Capabilities of Brain of different species:

The study of the biology of the evolutionary development and diversification of a species or groups of organisms (Phylogenies) reveal certain facts of confidence. It is claimed that there is a close relationship between brain complexity and the knowledge of thought or senses so to say the cognitive abilities of the species. The species, those have the largest and most complex brains tend to have the greatest cognitive capabilities. Rats have a moderately complex brain that is capable of many feats of learning, the dog brain is more complex and the cognitive abilities of dogs surpass those that of the rat. The monkey brain is highly complex and it has the amazing capacity in the range of communicative abilities, emotional responses and sexual responses. But even the human brain surpasses the cognitive capabilities of all other brains so far known existing on this planet.

The secret of uncertainty:

It is believed that brain is made of material stuff and its matter is examined scientifically and research is going on to find further discovery of information. The question arises – Is the mind is made up of material stuff? If not, the mind is made up of non-matter. If it is non-matter, the question again arises – what is that non-matter and with what matter is it made of? We have no answers and there the secret of mystery lies.

Teenagers-Brain Pruning:

Countless parents over the years have befuddled on looking the mysterious activities of their children. Some insights are now being provided by the recent neuroscience research of Teenage –Brain.  Some research study at the University of California reveals that “when a child is born, their brain is not fully-formed”. The study over the last few years exposes that there occurs a great proliferation of connections between cells in the brain. The study further reveals that it is the developing brain that decides which neutral links to keep based on how frequently they are used. Sometimes in adolescence period during the period of development, some important connections are lost, which could lead to psychiatric disorder. This requires parent’s care, nursing and supplying of nutrient food to children.

Yes, that is a question that still baffles... The difference between the brain and the mind. I don't think we are going to sort that one out too soon. I love the illustration of the adolescent brain and its functions. That is an even more daunting study. And if truth be known, there are very few adolescent, male or female, who have been recorded as having brains during recent studies!!

The brain is made up of 30% lecithin and then the rest is phospholipids/water. You can buy lecithin from whole food stores!! Actually I have a tub in the cupboard as I type!!

Good article HP :)

We often laugh about teenagers and their "lack of brains" when it comes to good decision making. The reality probably is that with the huge rush of growth hormones changing their bodies there are also stress hormones washing the brain. Those stress hormones bathing the brain have been found in long term studies of children to impede their academics and decision making ability, keeping the brain immature.

Perhaps it is a survival mechanism the brain uses until such time the dangerous environment is gone and it is then safe to resume learning and developing the brain. Studies in neuroscience are proliferating as we endeavor to understand the functioning of our own brains. Fascinating stuff. Great hub!

This is a very good article and quite interesting. I recommend to you, my friend, a great book: "The Seven Mysteries of Life" by Guy Murchie.

Hi My Friend James, you have rightly mentioned the right book. But the concept such as “transcendence” is not so easy to digest. Earth is a single organism and life is inherent in nature - the fact of these is easy to say but very difficult to explain and visualize. The book of Guy Murchie, has definitely brought a revolutionary thought on imagination in the intelligentsia. Thanks for reference.

Hi Hope your well,

Nice hub, amazing how the brain functions, it's a shame that there are many people in the world who still think we originated from primordial algae. They fail to realize the complex nature of humans, cannot exist without creation, order and pattern do not happen by coincidence.

All the best and keep up the good work.
