Delhi the Capital:

New Delhi is now transformed into a modern City as the City is the Capital city of the Republic of Modern India. It was once planned and designed in the 20th century by two British architects namely Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker. The city was formally inaugurated on February 13, 1931, by the then British India’s Governor-General Lord Irwin. Viceroy’s House ( Rashtrapati Bhawan) was constructed on the site of Raisina Hill, formerly Raisina Village. The present Secretariat Building and the Parliament House were flanked out of the Rastrapati Bhawan. The Government of British India felt that the administration of India would be easier making Delhi its capital.

Capital Delhi, not Calcutta:

The city Delhi is situated at the North of India. Once it  was thought that if Delhi is made the capital of India instead of Calcutta, the communication from the West or from the United Kingdom would be easier even though Calcutta the city of Eastern coast of India being developed at the beginning by the British after dethroning Shrajdulla. Calcutta was the capital of India until 1911 during the British Raj. The Southern part of Delhi being called old Delhi was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the pioneer of Wonder Taj Mohal. New Delhi spreads over the site of seven ancient cities and includes many historic monuments like Jantar Mantar, Lodhi Gardens besides Lotus Temple, Humanyun’s Tomb, Connaught Place, Akshardham Temple, and India Gate.

The Parliament House:

At the beginning Parliament house was planned as a part of Rashtrapati Bhawan, but later on in 1919 Montague-Chelmsford reform committee changed the plan and designed it afresh as the Indian Parliament. The Parliament consists of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and the President of India. Any legislative business is passed by the concurrence of the three. Lok Sabha is made up of 552 members. It is also known as the “House of the People” or the “Lower House”. The Rajya Sabha is known as the “Council of States” or the “Upper House”. Its members are elected by the members of legislative bodies of the States.

To fulfill his desire the construction works started and within eight years, Shajahanbad was completed with the completion of Red Fort in all its magnificence to receive Emperor. During the period of British occupation, although the Fort has changed its glamour to a great extent with the large-scale demolitions, even then its important structures have survived. Hi Hp roychoudhary,

I live in delhi and it is nice pics but there are still countless things we have here which are worth a visit like humayu tomb, Akshardham temple to name a few and also no trip to delhi is complete with out tasting famous delhi street food, so either for cheap shopping or food head to old delhi esp Chandni chowk

Hi Sweetie, I feel proud to get comment from the residents of Delhi. My look out is the greatness of Delhi from historical point of view. Even though I could not elaborate Humayun Tomb or Akshardham Temple because of constraint of space, I mentioned the names of historic importance. Yes Chandni Chowk is a place to enjoy. Delhi street food is something of modern Delhi’s specialty, without tasting of which, the visit of Delhi will remain incomplete.
