The Origin of FIFA:
In 1872, the world’s first international football match was played in Glasgow between Scotland and England. At that time the sport was rarely played outside the United Kingdom. However with the turn of the century the popularity of football began to increase in other parts of the world. FIFA was founded in 1904 and subsequently attempt had been made for an international football tournament in Switzerland in 1906 but without success. FIFA was also arranged tournament in 1914, but the first successful world’s intercontinental football competition was held at the 1920 Summer Olympics participated by Egypt and thirteen European teams and the winner was Belgium. The next two football tournament were held in 1924 and 1928 respectively while both were won by Uruguay. Subsequently, FIFA named two-time official football world champion Uruguay as the host country for the inaugural World Cup tournament. As the communication was not easy and costly, only a few teams from Belgium, France, Romania and Yugoslavia in total four from Europe, seven from South America and two from North America took part in the tournament. In the final, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in front of a crowd of 93,000 people in the play ground and became the first nation to win the World Cup. This was the true beginning of the World Cup.
World Cup (FIFA) before World War II:
There were powerful leaders such as Hitler wanted to capture more territory for German, similarly Mussolini in Italy wanted its influence over greater area of Europe and Japan extended its Emperor in the South East Asia regions. To counter these forces the Allied powers such as UK, French, Poland, and China and later US grouped together. As the few leaders of few countries were busy with war materials to fight and crush the enemy to death, few other people were found to be busy in building the unity among mankind by bringing the unity of friendship through sports like FIFA.The first tournament of World Cup (FIFA) was held in 1930 and since then the championship has been awarded every four years after except in 1942 and 1946 because of World War II.
World Cup (FIFA) after World War II:
After the World war II, the 1950 World Cup was held in Brazil where British team participated forgetting the previous revelry of not to play with countries they had been at war with. Uruguay showed its prophecy in football by wining the tournament again by defeating the host nation Brazil in one of the most famous football matches in World Cup history. In 1950 World Cup in total 13 teams were participated. Most of the participating teams were from Europe and South America with few more from North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. However the teams of North America, Africa, and Asia etc were defeated easily by the teams of Europe or South America. The teams outside of Europe and South America qualified in the first round were – USA, semi-finalists in 1930, Cuba, quarter-finalist in 1938, Korea DPR (North Korea), quarter-finalists in 1966, and Mexico, quarter-finalists in 1970. To increase the number of participants from Africa, Asia and North America, the tournament was expanded to 24 in 1982, and then to 32 in 1998. This has not only expanded the popularity of FIFA but also showed success for these regions. Many of those qualified for quarter-finals include: Mexico, quarter-finalists in 1986, Cameroon, quarter-finalists in 1990, Korea Republic, finished 4th in 2002, and Senegal along with USA both reached to quarter-final in 2002.
FIFA Limited to Europe and South America:
Of course all the teams of Europe and South America have maintained their quality of best. In 2006, all the quarter finalists were from Europe or South America. The demand for inclusion of more teams in FIFA increased and accordingly 200 teams entered the 2002 FIFA World Cup, 198 nations entered for 2006 World Cup. Now, 204 countries qualified to take part in the tournament of 2010 FIFA World Cup. The official match ball is ‘Adidas Jabulani’ for 2010 FIFA World Cup. The name Jabulani means “bring joy to everyone” in isiZulu, one of the languages of South Africa.
FIFA Extended to all Continent:
Out of 18th FIFA World Cup, Brazil have won five times, a record win, Italy, the current champions, have won four times, Germany three times, Argentina two times and Uruguay, England and French, with win of one times each. Rules were changed time to time. Since 1938 World Cup onwards, the host nations have been permitted the right to play to the final tournament. The defending Champions were also given the same right till 2002. This right was withdrawn from 2006 FIFA World Cup onwards. Brazil, the champion in 2002, thus became the first defending champions to play in a qualifying match.
FIFA is a World Entity:
To internationalize the tournament a step further, FIFA began a pattern of alternating the hosts between the Americas and Europe till 1998 FIFA World Cup. After words it had been extended to other countries. The 2002 FIFA World Cup had been hosted jointly by South Korea and Japan. Now South Africa became the first African country to host World Cup in 2010. Similarly the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Brazil outside of Europe:

I had not clue about the meaning of Jabulani.I think hosting world cup in South Africa FIFA has done a great job in bringing diversity and spreading the popularity of the game around the world.it's a great article.thanks:)
I have been hearing a lot about the ball! Although I also have heard that there are always complaints about the ball losing games, there are seldom complaints from the winning team! What do you think?
I loved hearing Shakira again, thanks!
Liked your hub. Lots of different info i didnt know.
The world cup does bring us all together, but it still shows where we have problems. Like the fact that there are 2 korea's competing instead of one.

Hp As a soccer coach and former player-(goalKeeper), I enjoy the game alot a 1-0 game will not turn alot of american heads but I thought it was a really good game-i only saw the 2nd half and extra time to the end. But until there is more scoring or more violence- I am not sure the US will get on the Soccer band wagon
